Prevention and Management of Dental Caries in Children
The Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) first published guidance on the Prevention and Management of Dental Caries in Children in April 2010. It has subsequently been updated in 2018 and 2025.
The guidance aims to assist and support primary care practitioners and their teams in improving and maintaining the oral health of their young patients from birth up to the age of 18 years. The guidance provides clear and practical recommendations and advice on the provision of dental care to prevent and, if necessary, manage dental decay in children.
For all editions of the guidance, studies with practitioners were conducted before and after publication. More information on these studies can be found on the 2010 edition page, and the 2018 edition page. The most recent studies can be found on the 2025 edition page.
